ALLOTMENT
Harry had always had an allotment before we married and then we took over when we moved to Hedon. WE gave that up when we moved so when I started with the rabbits it was not long before another allotment followed for two reasons.
One - we get plenty of fresh vegetables for the rabbits, ourselves and our friends. Two - its a good place to take the hutch cleanings.
Some of the cleanings go on the compost heap but some are put out fresh as a mulch and rotavated in. This has made the land very light and moisture retaining. At first we got some bad comments from the old timers but now, after seeing the crops we are getting, we are delivering it round the allotments now.
We grow curly kale, beetroot, sweet corn, various cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, apples, strawberries, raspberries, etc
This year I have planted some willow sticks after seeing them at the Bradford show. They are growing quite well so hopefully I will be able to make some nice toys for my rabbits from them soon.
